Last night, we traveled one hour into the future... and saw some pretty significant changes in hair and hat fashion.
"Whether or not black panthers are lurking in the British countryside, it is clear that a lot of people very badly want to believe that they are."
J. B. MacKinnon, The Once and Future World. If you could snap your fingers and be anywhere in an instant, where would you go?
Did you know that henna is a plant? If you touch a henna leaf, it won't stain your fingers - it's actually a certain molecule (Lawsone) found in the leaves that creates the stain. This molecule reacts with the Keratin in your fingers to create a strong dye, Humans have been using the henna plant to dye skin and hair for thousands of years. Who can resist combining plants and patterns all in one process?
Here is a little sneak peak on a new painting - or collage? - that I am working on. Coming soon!
Meet my friends the Thylakoid Membranes. They help to gather light as part of the processes of Photosynthesis, which recycles carbon dioxide into useable energy, and produces sweet, free oxygen! Enjoy, complements of all green beautiful living things.
The Gneiss found in the Minnesota River Valley is some of the oldest rock in the world.
This metamorphic rock began as Granite that cooled ever so slowly deep under the Earth. Intense heat and pressure caused layers to form, transforming it into gorgeous layers of Gneiss. I hope you enjoy today's geological pun! More information about Minnesota geology can be found here. Today I spent a quiet afternoon making wrapping paper by the light of the snow. I like to make my own wrapping paper because it is fun, and it gives the newspaper a second chance at life before going to the recycling bin.
I prefer to use my local small-town newspaper to set the scene for the festivities. Headlines such as "Merry Tuba Christmas Concert" or "While Plowing At 2AM, Farmer Scared As Sauces Hovers" add another layer of interest and information if one is willing to engage with the parcel. Or, just tear it open. It's recycleable. |
